IMV's 2007 Orthopedic Imaging Market Study
--Present Practices & Future Directions in Orthopedic Imaging: The Orthopedist''s Perspective
Based on interviews with 225 U.S. orthopedic specialists, this report summarizes the results of IMV Medical Information Division''s primary research on the present and future orthopedic imaging practices from the orthopedist''s perspective. The objective of this study is to provide insights on U.S. orthopedists'' roles in ordering and performing diagnostic orthopedic imaging procedures today and in the near future, specifically focusing on the next three years. This research explores orthopedists'' preferences in imaging modalities for the evaluation of selected musculoskeletal, trauma, and spinal conditions, as well as for pre-operative planning, intra-operative imaging, and post-operative follow-up. The report provides specific details on order volumes, referral rates, and procedure locations used for orthopedists'' orders involving digital and film-based X-ray, whole body and extremity MRI, computed tomography, DEXA, and PET, with additional analysis regarding the use of arthrography for joint imaging. The report also describes trends that will influence orthopedists'' future adoption of advanced diagnostic imaging modalities. The data collection for this study was conducted from October and November 2006.
