Trends in the Prostate Cancer Treatment Market: 2007 and Beyond
Based on interviews with over 225 U.S. radiation oncologists and urologists, this report summarizes the results of IMV‘s 2007 study of present and future treatment practices for patients with prostate cancer. The objective of this study is to provide insights on U.S. urologists'' and radiation oncologists'' roles in the prostate cancer treatment process today and in the near future, specifically focusing on the next three years. The report covers these physicians'' opinions about the relative efficacy of different therapies, the decision factors involved in the choice of therapy and the frequency that they order or perform the therapies. The therapies discussed include radical prostatectomy, LDR brachytherapy, seed implants, HDR brachytherapy, external beam radiation therapy (including IMRT and IGRT), cryotherapy, and proton beam therapy. The report also describes trends that will influence these physicians'' future adoption of the above- mentioned treatment methods, as well as other emerging therapies. The data collection for this study was conducted in June and July 2007.
